Faces at the Lab: Teresa Grossman

This occasional series shines a light on the Lab’s talented support staff…

Division/Department? Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO)

Years at the Lab? 10 1/2 years

What do you do? I work in the Office of Sponsored Projects and Industrial Partnerships (OSPIP) and help close scientific awards and proposals and enter data into the RAPID system.

What do you like best about your job? I like being able to both be an independent and a team player. I like being able to support our customers and ensure the funding process for scientific proposals and awards goes smoothly.

What would you like people to know about your position? OSPIP is responsible for submitting proposals and accepting awards from non-DOE sponsors. The Department’s Contract Officers have been delegated authority from the Lab Director to submit proposals and negotiate and accept awards in accordance with UC policy.

What have been some of your greatest achievements? When customers have personally thanked me for my service. Knowing that I have made a big difference means that the science and research have moved forward.

What is the strangest thing that’s ever happened on the job? A big rat was found in a closet near our office, coming out of a pipe from outside. I heard some screaming that day!

What are some of your favorite activities outside of work? I make jewelry, play the piano and read voraciously.

What saying best reflects your outlook on life? “In the end, it’s not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away.”
