Asian Pacific American Heritage Month: Saluting Berkeley Lab’s Asian Club

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a perfect time to shine a light on the Lab’s Asian Association. The group was founded in 2003 by Larry Li Guo (bottom right) of Human Resources. “When I started at the Lab in 1999, I saw that many new Asian employees had a difficult time assimilating to the Lab and local community,” he explains. “So I organized the association to help them and their families get settled into their new lives.” The group sponsors several annual activities, including Chinese New Year, summer camping trip, Fourth of July BBQ, Autumn Moon Festival, and a winter gathering at Lake Tahoe. They also organized fund drives for the victims of recent earthquakes in China and Japan.
