Jay Keasling Wins 2012 International Metabolic Engineering Award

Jay Keasling, Berkeley Lab’s Associate Laboratory Director for Biosciences, CEO of the Joint BioEnergy Institute and UC Berkeley’s Hubbard Howe Jr. Distinguished Professor of Biochemical Engineering has won the 2012 International Metabolic Engineering Award. Sponsored by the Metabolic Engineering Society, the award is given to “an outstanding career contributor to the field.” Keasling is being recognized for his metabolic engineering of yeast and E. coli to produce the antimalarial drug artemisinin, as well as his seminal contributions to the metabolic engineering of microorganisms for production of advanced biofuels. He will receive a $5,000 cash prize and commemorative plaque. Best Blogger Tips
